The Story Behind The Zaree Collective

After two and a half decades of being a stay-at-home mom, I experimented with all kinds of odd jobs to find my calling and fill up my free time. During my latest trip to India this past summer, my sister and brother-in-law gave me the idea to start my own business: importing authentic silk sarees from India and selling them in the USA. They mentioned how I could make connections with talented weavers and artisans in India, and curate a unique collection for an American customer base.
The idea immediately stuck with me, and while I was pondering it on my flight home, I was wondering if I can do this by myself. Coincidentally, I got a call from my friend Divya, to meet over coffee and discuss her new idea – to start a business where we could both pursue our creativity and expand our horizons. As if by magic, Divya put forth the same idea! We knew that our combined expertise would create a business that could ethically and certifiably import silk sarees for an American market. With the green light from the universe, we registered Zaree Collective LLC in March 2025.
At Zaree Collective, we handpick beautiful weaves firsthand from expert weavers and artisans in India to develop a unique selection that appeals to new American consumers and to Indian women alike. We wanted to create something where the entrepreneurs, the consumers, and the artisans all get to benefit.
Growing up in India, silk sarees were an integral part of every occasion. My mother has
wonderful taste and is exceptionally skilled in selecting sarees. She wore them with such grace and ease too, and she was thrilled to hear that Divya and I were going into the saree business. My mother and I handpicked the first batch of sarees for Zaree, and in March 2025, we brought forth the Sankari collection, in her memory.
